About Pete

Pete has over a decade of experience working in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) roles, in the UK, in New Zealand and internationally. He has advised hundreds of organisations, from government departments to local public services, from large private sector multinationals to NGOs. Passionate about social and economic rights, Pete believes firmly that employers can play a crucial role not just in removing inequities within their walls, but are also powerful vehicles for bringing about wider social change.

As Head of Research and Development at the national body for workplace EDI in Aotearoa New Zealand, he rolled out the national EDI excellence framework (AIM) to shape and uplift EDI practices across the country’s workforce, leading national research projects and spearheading advocacy efforts. He served on the assessment panel for New Zealand’s Workplace Inclusion Professional Accreditation (WIPA) programme, supporting the capabilities of EDI practitioners nationwide. Prior to New Zealand, Pete advised clients on LGBTQ+ inclusion and later worked in global programming, partnering with legal experts to develop frameworks and advise multinationals on their global strategies. He also forged a partnership with NGOs in India to launch the country’s inaugural Workplace Equality Index.

As well as being a proud Yorkshireman, Pete considers himself a global citizen and holds a Masters degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies. In his spare time, he can be found reading about geopolitics, immersed in queer culture, and trying to remember how to play the piano. He is a total thalassophile (lover of water) - swimming, scuba diving and freediving at any chance he gets - cherishes being in nature and has recently “come out” of the hiking closet following many years of denial.
